Rob Parissi (lead vocals & guitar) was raised in the steel mill town of Mingo Junction, Ohio. Parissi graduated from Mingo High School in 1968. Rob formed the band Wild Cherry in 1970 in Steubenville, Ohio, one mile north of Mingo Junction along the Ohio River. The band’s name “Wild Cherry” was taken from a box of cough drops while Rob was recuperating from a brief hospital stay.

The band played the Ohio Valley region,Wheeling, West Virginia and the rest of the Northern West Virginia panhandle, and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The original line-up included: Ben Difabbio (drums and vocals), Louie Osso (guitar, lead and background vocals) from Steubenville, Ohio, Larry Brown (bass, lead and background vocals) from Weirton, West Virginia, Larry Mader (keyboards, lead and background vocals) from East Springfield, Ohio, Over time, the band members changed, with Osso, Brown, and Mader leaving the band, replaced by Rob’s cousin, Coogie Stoddart (guitar, lead and background vocals) and Joe Buchmelter (bass). Buchmelter was soon replaced by Buckie Lusk.

Several records before “Play That Funky Music” were released under their own label during the early 1970s, including “You Can Be High (But Lay Low),” date unknown, and “Something Special On Your Mind,” in 1971. The music at this stage was pure rock music, not funk. Wild Cherry eventually gained a record contract with Brown Bag Records, owned and operated by the late Terry Knight of Terry Knight And The Pack fame, who later on without Terry became Grand Funk Railroad, who Terry also produced at the time for Capitol records. Several demos and singles on Knight’s Brown Bag label distributed by United Artists were produced including “Get Down” (1973) and “Show Me Your Badge” (1973).
The band broke up when a disillusioned Parissi left the music scene to become the manager of a local steakhouse. Rob quickly realized that the steakhouse gig was not going to cut it. Chicken With Wild Rice Soup

Ingredients
4 cups low sodium chicken broth
3 cups water
1 box Long Grain & Wild Rice (w/ flavor packet, we used Roundy’s brand of Near East)
2 stalks celery, diced
¼ cup red onion, thinly sliced
½ cup carrots, diced
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 teaspoon dried majoram
3 tablespoons olive oil
3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
¾ cup heavy cream
¼ cup milk
salt and pepper, to taste
2 cups cooked chicken

Directions
In a large saucepan or dutch oven, drizzle olive oil on the bottom and add carrots, celery, garlic, onion, marjoram and seasoning flavor packet. Saute for 5 minutes over medium heat.

Stir rice in; then mix in the flour. Add chicken broth and water and bring to a boil. Simmer for 15 minutes.

While soup is simmering, heat the heavy cream and milk in a small saucepan, just until hot. Add milk and heavy cream to the soup mixture along with the cooked chicken. Simmer for another 30 minutes, or until the rice is cooked through. Season with salt and pepper.

We served ours in a sourdough bread bowl.

The original Bad Boys of Reggae – Inner Circle, have finally released their highly anticipated music video for the reggae remix of Wiz Khalifa’s, “Young, Wild & Free.”

The song also features Bizerk and dancehall singjay I-Octane in the mix. Look out for cameos from Flo Rida, Tony Matterhorn and Nefatari as well.

Inner Circle is a Jamaican reggae group. The group was formed in 1968 by the brothers Ian and Roger Lewis in Jamaica. With Jacob Miller as their frontman and lead singer the band was one of the most popular in Jamaica during the 70’s, and one of few reggae bands that performed live. They are responsible for the 1987 song “Bad Boys,” which serves as the theme song for Fox Network’s long-running television program COPS. However, at first they covered soul and R&B hits from the United States, and then also a few reggae songs, predominantly from Bob Marley.

 Career

The band released its debut album in 1974 on the famed record label, Trojan Records, and resigned in 1979 to Island Records, where the internationally successful album Everything Is Great originated. This album reached top 20 in the UK and preceded their other chart success by some years.

The original Inner Circle included Ibo Cooper (keyboards), Stephen Cat Core (guitar), Funky Brown (vocals), Prilly (vocals), Ian and Roger Lewis, and Mr. Lewis. The band’s residence was originally on Holborn Road in New Kingston. In latter years they had a horn section that included Douglas Gutherie on alto sax and Leighton Johnson on trumpet; both were former members of the Excelsior High School band. During that time the band toured extensively to North America and Bermuda. At the end of this time, Ibo and Cat started their own band, Third World, whose hits included, “Now That We Found Love” and “Ninety Six Degrees in the Shade”. Parts of NSW have experienced their heaviest snow in years – and it’s come in mid-October – as the state shivers through a severe cold change. The weather bureau reported other severe weather events in the state, including eight-metre waves at Batemans Bay overnight and gale force winds on the south coast.
