Thrift Shop – Macklemore and Ryan Lewis

Thrift Shop - Macklemore and Ryan Lewis

Macklemore and Ryan Lewis, a duo from Seattle, Washington, have emerged as a premier national hip-hop group known for their electrifying live shows, expertly crafted music, and innovative music videos and media.

After years of building momentum with impassioned support from their devoted fan base, 2012 has been a banner year for the group, kicked off by Macklemore’s feature in XXL’s Freshman Class. Most recently, they have broken new ground by independently releasing their debut full-length album, The Heist, which shot into the #1 spot on iTunes and debuted at #2 on the Billboard charts without the support of a traditional record label.

Their single “Thrift Shop” has top 40 on the Billboard Top 100 chart and is still climbing, with a wildly popular music video (20 million+ views on YouTube) on heavy rotation on BET and MTV2. “Same Love,” a song and video in support of marriage equality, galvanized young fans and voters and led to a live studio performance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.

While on their 70-city, completely sold-out world tour supporting The Heist, they have garnered attention in Rolling Stone, Billboard, NPR, TIME and GQ, with live performances on VH1 and an upcoming feature on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.

The Andrews Sisters Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy

Last of the Andrews Sisters dies at 94

Patty Andrews was lead singer and youngest member of 1940s swing trio whose hits included Don’t Sit Under the Apple Tree.

Patty Andrews, the last surviving member of the singing trio the Andrews Sisters, has died in California at 94, her spokesman has said.

Andrews died at her home in the Northridge area of Los Angeles, said Alan Eichler on Wednesday.

She was the youngest of the singing threesome, who were renowned for their tight harmonies in hits including Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy and Don’t Sit Under the Apple Tree. The Andrews Sisters sold more than 75m records and became household names in the 1940s when they entertained second world war troops in Africa, the US and Europe.

The sisters specialised in swing and played with some of the best-known big bands of the era, including those led by Glen Miller, Benny Goodman and Tommy Dorsey.

The sisters also appeared in 16 films, including roles alongside Bob Hope and Bing Crosby in Road to Rio, and Bud Abbott and Lou Costello in Buck Privates and Hold that Ghost.

Born in Minnesota, the sisters started their careers by performing in local talent shows and later moved to California. LaVerne Andrews died of cancer in 1967 and Maxene died in 1995 of a heart attack.

Sing Sing Sing Benny Goodman

Sing Sing Sing Benny Goodman

Benny Goodman

About Benny Goodman

His passion was music and his big band sound quickened the pulse of a generation ready to shrug off the Depression and dance. With clarinet in hand, Benny Goodman was transformed from a child in Chicago’s impoverished Jewish ghetto into the king of swing, greeted with near pandemonium wherever his band played. Goodman led jazz into the commercial mainstream and brought with him an extraordinary group of gifted and original musicians. Band members Teddy Wilson and Lionel Hampton were some of the first to break the big band color barrier. Held together by the force of Goodman’s personality and a willingness to put their music above all else, the Benny Goodman Band created a kingdom of swing with enthusiastic fans from coast to coast.

It could have been a far different life, had destiny not intervened. Struggling to raise a family of eleven on sweatshop wages, Benny Goodman’s father believed music might be a ticket out of poverty for his eldest sons. He enrolled them in free music classes at a local synagogue when Benny was just ten. His older brothers were given a tuba and a trombone, but Benny, the smallest, got a clarinet. From the outset, he was a prodigy of unmistakable talent. As a youth, he had frequented the jazz halls on the south side of Chicago, soaking in some of the greatest musicianship in the world. By the time he was fifteen, Goodman had dropped out of school and already established himself as a professional musician. It was then that the Ben Pollack Orchestra asked him to move to California and join the band.

Lamb Korma Recipe

Lamb Korma Recipe

Lamb Korma Recipe

INGREDIENTS:

1½ cups chopped onion
1 cup clarified butter (melted and skimmed of milk solids)
4 to 5 large cardamom pods (available in the spice section)
10 to 12 small cardamom pods
2 lb lamb, cubed
6 to 8 garlic cloves, crushed
½ inch fresh ginger, peeled
and finely grated
1½ Tbsp ground coriander
1 tsp red chili powder
1½ tsp salt
8 oz plain yogurt, lightly whisked
Pinch of saffron
TOTAL TIME: 2 hours
DIRECTIONS:

1. Brown onions in butter until deep golden. Remove with a slotted spoon and pulse in a blender to form a paste. Crush cardamom; mix into paste.

2. Add meat to pan; stir over medium-high. After a few minutes, add garlic, ginger, coriander, chili powder, and salt. Stir for a couple of minutes. Mix in yogurt. Cover and cook over very low heat, 1 to 1½ hours.

3. About 5 minutes before korma is ready, add onion-cardamom paste and saffron so it can be absorbed by the meat and gravy.

Salman’s Tips:
  • “Trim all excess fat first, then cut the meat into medium-size cubes, deboning some pieces and keeping others on the bone.”
  • ”After 30 minutes, you may need to add some water. But if your gravy is too watery, you added too much! Turn the heat up and boil some off. A korma should have a thick sauce.”

Are We The Ones With Dementia

Are We The Ones With Dementia

Are We The Ones With Dementia Laughing-Hamster

ONE

Recently, when I went to McDonald’s I saw on the menu that you could have an order of 6, 9 or 12 Chicken McNuggets.

I asked for a half dozen nuggets.

‘We don’t have a half dozen nuggets,’ said the
teenager at the counter.

‘You don’t?’ I replied.

‘We only have six, nine or twelve.’ was the reply.

‘So I can’t order a half dozen nuggets but I can order six?’

‘That’s right.’

So I shook my head and ordered six McNuggets.

(Unbelievable but sadly true…)

(Must have been the same one I asked for sweetener
and she said they didn’t have any, only Splenda and sugar.)

TWO

I was checking out at the local Wal-Mart with just a few items and the lady behind me
put her things on the belt close to mine. I picked up one of those ‘dividers’ that they
keep by the cash register and placed it between our things so they wouldn’t get mixed.
After the girl had scanned all of my items, she picked up the
‘divider’, looking all over for the bar code so she could scan it.

Not finding the bar code, she said to me. ‘Do you know how much this is?’

I said to her ‘I’ve changed my mind. I don’t think I’ll buy that today.’

She said ‘OK.’ and I paid her for the things and left.

She had no clue to what had just happened.

( But the lady behind me had a big smirk on her face as I left)

THREE

A woman at work was seen putting a credit card into her floppy drive and pulling it out very quickly.
When I inquired as to what she was doing, she said she was shopping on the Internet and they kept asking for a credit card number, so she was using the ATM ‘thingy.’
(Keep shuddering!!)

FOUR

I recently saw a distraught young lady weeping beside her car. ‘Do you need some help?’ I asked. She replied. ‘I knew I should have replaced the battery to this remote door opener. Now I can’t get into my car. Do you think they (pointing to a distant convenience store) would have a battery to fit this?’

‘Hmmm, I don’t know. Do you have an alarm, too?’ I asked.

‘No, just this remote thingy.’ she answered,
handing it and the car keys to me. As I
took the key and manually unlocked the door, I
replied. ‘Why don’t you drive over there and
check about the batteries. It’s a long walk….’

PLEASE just lay down before you hurt yourself !!!

FIVE

Several years ago, we had an Intern who was none too swift. One day she was typing and turned to a secretary and said, ‘I’m almost out of typing paper. What do I do?’ ‘Just use paper from the photocopier’, the secretary told her. With that, the intern took her last remaining blank piece of paper, put it on the photocopier and proceeded to make five ‘blank’ copies.

Brunette, by the way!!

SIX

A mother calls 911 very worried asking the dispatcher if she needs to take her kid to the emergency room, the kid had eaten ants. The dispatcher tells her to give the kid some Benadryl and he should be fine. The mother says, ‘I just gave him some ant killer……’

Dispatcher: ‘Rush him in to emergency right now!’

Someone had to remind me, so I’m reminding you too.
Don’t laugh….it is all true…

The Eagles – Sad Cafe

The Eagles – Sad Cafe

The Eagles Sad Cafe
Eagles is an American rock band formed in Los Angeles, California in 1971 by Glenn FreyDon HenleyBernie Leadon, and Randy Meisner.

With seven number-one singles, six Grammys, five American Music Awards, and six number one albums, the Eagles were one of the most successful musical acts of the 1970s. At the end of the 20th century, two of their albums, Their Greatest Hits (1971–1975) and Hotel California, ranked among the 20 best-selling albums in the U.S. according to the Recording Industry Association of AmericaHotel California is ranked 37th in Rolling Stone500 Greatest Albums of All Time, and the band was ranked No. 75 on the magazine’s 2004 list of the 100 Greatest Artists of All Time.

They have sold 150 million records worldwide—100 million in the U.S. alone—including 42 million copies of Their Greatest Hits (1971–1975). They are the fifth-highest-selling music act and highest-selling American band in U.S. history. No American band sold more records than the Eagles during the 1970s.

The Eagles released their self-titled debut album in 1972, which spawned three Top 40 singles: “Take It Easy“, “Witchy Woman“, and “Peaceful Easy Feeling“. Their next album, Desperado (1973), was less successful than the first, reaching only No. 41 on the charts; neither of its singles reached the Top 40. However, the album contained two of the band’s most popular tracks: “Desperado” and “Tequila Sunrise“. They released On the Border in 1974, adding guitarist Don Feldermidway through the recording of the album. The album generated two Top 40 singles: “Already Gone” and their first Number One, “Best of My Love“.

It was not until 1975’s One of These Nights that the Eagles became America’s biggest band. The album included three Top 10 singles: “One of These Nights“, “Lyin’ Eyes“, and “Take It to the Limit“. They continued that success in late 1976 with the release of Hotel California, which would go on to sell over 16 million copies in the U.S. alone. The album yielded three Top 20 singles, “New Kid in Town“, “Hotel California“, and “Life in the Fast Lane“. They released their last studio album for nearly 28 years in 1979 with The Long Run, which spawned three Top 10 singles: “Heartache Tonight“, “The Long Run“, and “I Can’t Tell You Why“.

The Eagles disbanded in July 1980 but reunited in 1994 for the album Hell Freezes Over, a mix of live and new studio tracks. They have toured intermittently since then and were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1998. In 2007, the Eagles released Long Road Out of Eden, their first full studio album in 28 years. The album would top the album charts, release five singles to the Adult Contemporary Charts, and win the band two Grammys. The next year they launched the Long Road Out of Eden Tour in support of the album. The band members have discussed the possibility of making another album.
