Gipsy Kings - Djobi Djoba

HISTORY and BIOGRAPHY

The Gipsy Kings consist of two bands of brothers: the Reyes (Nicolas, Canut, Paul, Patchai, Andre) and the Baliardos (Tonino, Paco, Diego). The Reyes and Baliardo boys were the offspring of Spanish gypsy families that had fled into France to escape Spain’s Civil War. They grew up roaming the south of France, working harvests and making music.

Jose Reyes father of the GK Reyes sang alongside guitarist Manitas de Plata and did much to popularise flamenco internationally: John Steinbeck, Charlie Chaplin, Pablo Picasso, Miles Davis and Salvador Dali were amongst the duos admirers Jose split from Manitas in the 1970s and formed Los Reyes with his teenage sons. His death devastated the Reyes yet lead to their fortuitous encounter with the Baliardos at the St. Marie de la Mer Gitan pilgrimage. On that warm night, as they passed the guitar, shared songs and wine, history was shaped.
Initially, the Reyes and Baliardos busked on the streets of Cannes, played weddings and parties, young men flavouring flamenco with Western pop and Latin rhythms. When an American admirer told the band their name Los Reyes meant “The Kings” in English they realised they were born to be Gipsy Kings. In 1987 The Gipsy Kings self-titled debut album introduced the world to rumba Gitano the sound of South America rumba rhythm married to flamenco guitars  and with Bamboleo the Gipsy Kings scored a huge international hit. Since then the Kings have never stopped singing to the world.
Today the Gipsy Kings still live with their families in the south of France. Life may have changed for them  they no longer busk on streets or pick crops when times are hard or travel in caravans  but still, at heart, they remain Gypsies, the proud descendants of an ancient people who seduced the world with music and dance. On Pasajero, the Gipsy Kings continue their epic musical journey.

Daft Punk – Around The World

Daft Punk - Around The World

Daft Punk is an electronic music duo consisting of French musicians Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo (born 8 February 1974) and Thomas Bangalter (born 3 January 1975). Daft Punk reached significant popularity in the late 1990s house movement in France and met with continued success in the years following, combining elements of house with synthpop. The duo is credited with producing songs that are considered essential in the French house scene. It was managed from 1996 to 2008 by Pedro Winter (Busy P), the head of Ed Banger Records. Early in the group’s career, the band members were strongly influenced by groups such as the Beach Boys and the Rolling Stones.

Bangalter and de Homem-Christo were originally in a band called Darlin’, which disbanded after a short period of time, leaving the two to experiment musically on their own. The duo became Daft Punk, releasing its critically acclaimed debut album Homework in 1997. The 2001 release of Discovery was even more successful, driven by the club singles “One More Time”, “Digital Love”, and “Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger”.

In March 2005, the duo released the album Human After All to mixed reviews. However, the singles “Robot Rock” and “Technologic” achieved success in the United Kingdom. Daft Punk toured throughout 2006 and 2007 and released the live album Alive 2007, which won a Grammy award for Best Electronic/Dance Album. The duo composed the score of the film Tron: Legacy and in 2010 released the soundtrack album of the film. In January 2013, Daft Punk left EMI Records for Sony Music Entertainment’s subsidiary label Columbia to release its next album.

Daft Punk is noted for its elaborate live shows, in which visual elements and effects are incorporated with the music. The group is known for its emphasis on visual and story components associated with their musical productions. Daft Punk is also known for its use of disguises, particularly the ornate robot costumes, while in public and/or performing.

Taylor Dayne - Tell It To My Heart

When the name Taylor Dayne is mentioned, right away the time frame goes to the ’80s where ‘Tell It to My Heart’ became the most frequent song to be blasted from boom boxes. Twenty years after, the name is not yet exhausted from the rub of time. The disco icon is back with her solo record Satisfied that released its first single, ‘Beautiful’ to no longer big hair era beats but wild anthem and a twist of contemporary pop. “It was time to roll up my sleeves, get back into the studio and show people I’m not done yet,” Dayne said with a laugh. Talking about ‘done’, she rolled out a team that almost scarily awe any music fans who knows the drill. Taking Mike Mangini (Baha Men, O-Town), Peter Wade, Jennifer Lopez, Rihanna and Rick Nowels Stevie Nicks, Madonna, Dayne believes her new sound will capture her old fans the same way as the new ones. “My job as an artist is to make sure that I make the material I choose mine, by interpreting it my way,” Dayne puts it. ‘Satisfied’ is in stores February 5, 2008.

Hailed from Baldwin Nassau Country, New York, Dayne whose real name …

is Lesli Wunderman was born on March 7, 1962. She grew up listening to rock bands like The Beatles,  Aerosmith Led Zeppelin and The Stones but also took her time in sipping a little Al Green and Marvin Gaye. Once graduated from High School at the age of 15, she joined little-known bands called ‘Felony’ and ‘The Next’. Knowing that there’s a bigger opportunity out there for her solo career, she introduced herself as Les Lee and released a single called ‘I’m the One You Want’ but it was in 1985 that she had the big break by meeting producer Ric Wake. Two years working hard, she came out with ‘Tell It to My Heart’ that amazingly became a perfect fit to the music taste at that time. Upon its release in 1987, Arista signed her immediately, leading to an album under the same name that was worked on within a matter of months due to the high demand. By 1988, Dayne was a huge pop star. Read more: http://www.aceshowbiz.com/celebrity/taylor_dayne/biography.html#ixzz2Ob03ZwZO

Tonight Alive – Starlight

Tonight Alive -Starlight

Tonight Alive - Starlight

It’s an unlikely tale. Rising from the fevered hotbed of Sydney, Australia’s underground hardcore scene, boy meets girl. Or rather, two boys meet girl to make kick-ass rock music.

Try to keep up – the story goes something like this…

Guitarist Whakaio Taahi and his compadre bass player, Cameron Adler, needed a frontman for a rock project. Scrap that. Frontwoman. Enter ingenue-with-attitude, Jenna McDougall – as soon as the sixteen-year-old songstress’ soaring contralto and sweet strains took the mic to their songs, something clicked. Already onboard, rhythm axeman Jake Hardy and new recruit, drummer Matt Best – a childhood buddy of Whakaio’s. One jam later, the writing was on the wall. Tonight Alive were up and running, pedal to the metal.

The band stepped up, and fast. Songs honed, stagecraft already a dead cert, they entered Sydney’s subterranean circuit of metalcore and heavy bands, playing their own brand of catchy-as-all-hell pop-punk… and promptly took the scene by storm, developing a rabid young fanbase in thrall to the band’s ebullient, fist-pumping anthemery, arena-sized hooks and high-voltage live performances. Right from word-go, it was clear Tonight Alive were going somewhere.

A year on, courted by labels and management secured, with two stellar EPs (‘All Shapes & Disguises’ and ‘Consider This’) under their belts, a demo of Tonight Alive’s new material landed on producer-extraordinaire Mark Trombino’s (Blink 182, Jimmy Eat World, The Starting Line) desk. He rang the band immediately, wanting in.

“For him to contact us, and say he was interested, was a big deal,” says Jenna, now 19. “We couldn’t believe he’d put himself out like that. He’s amazing. Mark created the albums we all grew up listening to – the albums that launched the careers of all these great bands.

Whakaio weighs in. “Yeah, it felt right that he do our first album, that he be the one to kick-start us off. As soon as we got over there, we found Mark felt the same.”

Recorded at LA’s infamous NRG Studios over two months, Trombino’s personal interest in the project played out in other fortuitous ways. “Nothing was left to editing or over Pro-Tooling,” notes Whakaio. “Jenna sang every line until it was right. I played every guitar part. The drum sound is natural and not heavily sampled. There was no copy-pasting. That was really important to us, as well as Mark. That it sound real. Natural.”
